Where to stay in Provence
There is no single "best" place to stay in Provence, there are four good choices, each with a different personality. As a workshop in Provence that delivers watches to hotels all summer, we know which addresses deliver on their promise.
Four valid bases, depending on what you want
• Alpilles (Saint-Rémy, Les Baux, Eygalières), the quietest, most cinematic option. Van Gogh land. Best for a first trip.
• Luberon (Gordes, Lourmarin, Bonnieux), the postcard Provence: ochre cliffs, hilltop villages, lavender. Busier in summer.
• Avignon / Arles, for culture-first travellers; close to a TGV station.
• Aix-en-Provence, urban Provence, café terraces, easy day trips.
Booking advice
Reserve three months ahead for May, June, September; six months for July-August. Stay at least 3 nights in one place, the joy of Provence is unpacking once.
A few addresses we trust because we deliver watches to them regularly: Baumanière (Les Baux), La Mirande (Avignon), Villa Gallici (Aix), Capelongue (Bonnieux), Hôtel de Tourrel (Saint-Rémy).
Take home something local
For a travel gift that does not melt, fade or get confiscated, the ALPILLE watch is hand-assembled here in the Alpilles, €229, and we deliver to most hotels in the region within 3-5 business days.
Detailed guide per village
Each guide lists 3 hotels we deliver to and a one-day plan.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book?
3 months for May/June/September, 6 months for July/August. Last-minute July is brutal.
Are these hotels family-friendly?
Most are. Mas-style hotels with pools (Mas de l'Oulivié, Domaine de Manville) are easier with kids than urban hôtels particuliers.
Can ALPILLE really deliver a watch to my hotel?
Yes, in 3-5 business days, tracked Colissimo. Add the hotel name and check-out date at checkout.
