Saint-Rémy is the cultural heart of the Alpilles. Vincent Van Gogh painted more than 150 canvases here at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole monastery in 1889,1890, olive groves, irises, cypresses, the starry sky. Nostradamus was born on rue Hoche in 1503. Glanum, the Roman city at the foot of the Alpilles, has been measuring time for two millennia.
