The Alpilles watch, born where the limestone meets the olive groves
The Alpilles are not just a backdrop on our label. They are the small chain of white limestone mountains between Saint-Rémy and Les Baux where we live, walk and design. Every ALPILLE watch is conceived in this landscape and assembled by hand at its northern edge. A watch that is not from Provence, but of the Alpilles, specifically.

Why this exact corner of Provence matters
The Alpilles are smaller than the Luberon and harder than the Camargue. They are dry, white, fragrant with thyme and rosemary, dotted with olive groves and crowned by villages, Saint-Rémy, Eygalières, Maussane, Les Baux, Fontvieille, Mouriès, Le Paradou. Cézanne painted the Mont Sainte-Victoire, but it is Van Gogh, Daudet and Mistral who immortalised the Alpilles. The colours, the light, the silence, they shape everything we make.
A watch built around a small mountain range is a watch built around something specific. We did not want a generic "Provence" brand. We wanted to root the design in the exact 510 km² of the Alpilles Regional Natural Park, its stone, its trees, its rhythms.
What makes an Alpilles watch different
The 40 mm polished 316L steel case is sized for the wrist of someone who walks, climbs and lives outdoors, comfortable, never bulky. The beige ridged dial mirrors the dry-stone walls (murets de pierre sèche) that line every Alpilles path. The hands echo cypresses against the mistral wind. The olive-green strap nods to the olive oil mills of Maussane and Mouriès (AOC Vallée des Baux). The earth-brown strap recalls the bauxite-rich red clay around Les Baux.

Frequently asked questions
What are the Alpilles, exactly?
The Alpilles are a small mountain range in Provence, France, about 25 km long, between Avignon and Arles, with Saint-Rémy-de-Provence at its northern foot and Les Baux-de-Provence on its highest spur. The Alpilles Regional Natural Park covers 510 km² of olive groves, limestone cliffs, dry-stone villages and pine forest.
Why name the brand after a mountain range?
Because we live and assemble watches here. ALPILLE (singular, no S) is our signature, a quiet anchor in a real place rather than a marketing abstraction. It also makes the brand unmistakably French and unmistakably Provence.
Is this watch good for hiking in the Alpilles?
Yes. The 5 ATM water resistance covers rain, splashes and hand-washing. The 40 mm steel case, no more than 9 mm thick, is sturdy without being heavy. The leather strap is fine for hiking, though many customers swap to a NATO strap (22 mm, quick-release pins) for trail use.
Can I see the workshop?
Yes, by appointment. Our atelier is in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, 12 km north of Saint-Rémy. Email contact@alpille.com if you would like to visit while in the area.
